Woodworks 2019 was held on Friday and Saturday May 10th and 11th at the usual venue The Leisure Centre in Daventry. All of the woodturning clubs that exhibited took part in the competitions and the quality of work was very high.
First up was a bowl to your design from a piece of timber 8″ diameter x 2 1/2″ thick which was supplied by Tudor Rose. Adrian Finch took on this challenge and considering this was his very first competitive piece he came in with a really creditable third place.
On the second day a Goblet to your design with ONE captive ring was required. Roger Gilbert stepped up for this one and came away with an excellent second place for his efforts.
Throughout the two days a Gavel and Anvil was to be made. Gerald Hubbard produced our entry for this and he made a really fine piece which was richly rewarded with first place.
The Club Challenge for this year was a Chess Set to your own design, complete with a Board. Bob Green opted for this monstrous challenge and he created a fantastic chess set and board. Unfortunately Bob was unlucky as his project was unplaced but was an excellent effort.
The last element of the competitions was the Best Stand out of all of the clubs that were there. We managed to get a 3rd place for this against very strong competition.
Last year West Northants Woodturners managed to win the overall show so we had a challenge to do the same this year. As we managed to get placed in the competitions the result for overall show for 2019 fell to us yet again. A great thanks goes to Mick Denton, Adrian Finch, Roger Gilbert, Gerald Hubbard and Joan Whitehead for their work on the stand and competitions. Thanks also goes out to those members that submitted their pieces for the stand as it was your contribution that helped us to achieve this fantastic result.
